Last Sunday, the Watford RFC U16 Girls delivered an outstanding performance at the Hertfordshire Girls Festival, competing against some of the strongest teams in the local area and showcasing their skill, teamwork, and sportsmanship.

The tournament began with decisive victories over two formidable sides, Datchworth and Hitchin. Watford’s girls dominated both matches, displaying excellent teamwork, speed, and tactical awareness. Their next challenge came in a tightly contested match against Fullerians, where both teams were neck and neck throughout. Despite Watford’s fierce effort, they narrowly lost by a conversion, proving their resilience in a close battle.

The team bounced back with a solid win against Hertford, maintaining their high standards. However, their toughest test of the day came against Welwyn, widely regarded as the strongest team in the festival. Watford pushed their opponents to the limit, with the game ultimately decided by a few breakaway tries in Welwyn's favor. Despite the loss, Watford’s defensive structure and attacking prowess were clear highlights.

In their final game of the day, Watford faced OA’s, where they finished on a high note with a commanding win. Their brilliant attacking play, coupled with strong defensive coordination, allowed them to cap the festival in style.

The U16 girls finished in the top 3 of the tournament, a remarkable achievement given the level of competition. Adding to their success, they were awarded the prestigious Core Values Award, voted for by the referees. This award highlights their adherence to the key principles of rugby—respect, discipline, and sportsmanship—underscoring that they not only performed exceptionally but did so with integrity and honor.
