Battling Through the Tough Tests at Saracens Amateurs

Battling Through the Tough Tests at Saracens Amateurs

Jack Upton26 Mar - 16:45

Resilience, Teamwork, and Lessons Learned on a Challenging Sunday

Turning up at Saracens amateurs for a Sunday of rugby with a nearly full under 11's squad expecting 4 tough games against some teams we have never played.
First up was Regents Park, we fielded a sleepy team and as a result of some missed tackles and lack of positioning we leaked 2 quick early tries. Our heads didn't drop though, quite the opposite! We all of a sudden sprang into life, picked up the pace and defended strong. The tables started to turn and we found ourselves on the attack for a good portion of the second half. Frankie managed to score a good try from some good team play and then added another one to level the match. Another 2 or 3 minutes of playing and we could have had a few more tries, but it wasn't to be and the final whistle secured the draw.
Up next was Saracens Red. After having such a positive first game, for some reason we started and finished this game chasing our tails. Saracens Red were the stronger side and we leaked too many tries too quickly for any sort of comeback. Our heads went down and we allowed them to run around us. We played out the game just defending as much as possible. Lessons were learnt though and we would need to be prepared for our next match.
Our third match was against Saracens Black. Although we did concede a few early tries (again) we did battle back scoring a couple of our own. We found ourselves going through our subs like water with plenty of injuries and trips to the medics as a result from stray footwork and hands from Sarries. We kept battling and so did they with tries coming from both sides. They probably just sealed the win but a couple of minutes more could have resulted in a different outcome.
Our final game should have been against Tabard but unfortunately they called it off due to lack of players as all games ran over the allocated times (think they were just scared, lol), but with our injuries it probably worked out for the best.
All in all not a bad day, lessons have been learnt and we have proved to ourselves that just because we let in a few tries, we can find a way back if we stick together.

Player of the day goes to Frankie for some great tries, team play and outstanding tackling.
Most improved player is for Lana for playing amazingly as a scrum half .

Well done everyone, it was a tough day but continued to work as a team.
