A weekend of resilience, teamwork, and growth for Watford’s young rugby stars.

The Watford U16 girls’ rugby team recently participated in their third year at the world’s largest girls’ rugby festival, held at RAF Halton. The team faced tough competition, drawn into one of the hardest pools, but their spirit and determination never wavered throughout the day.

A Strong Start Against Eaton Manor

The opening match against Eaton Manor saw the girls kick off with a promising display of discipline and strategy. They dominated possession, going through phases relentlessly, keeping Eaton Manor under constant pressure. Despite their control, Eaton Manor capitalized on a breakaway opportunity and scored the first try. Undeterred, the Watford girls continued their relentless attack and were rewarded with an equalizing try. Unfortunately, Eaton Manor secured another breakaway try right at the end of the match, leaving the Watford girls with a narrow and hard-fought loss.

Resilience in the Face of Setbacks

The girls were tired after their participation in the Herts Festival the previous week, and the tough loss in their first match was a difficult blow. However, they showed immense resilience, quickly shaking off the defeat and stepping up for their second match against a very strong Ampthill side. While the game was competitive and the girls put in a commendable effort, they were unable to secure a victory, resulting in a second loss.

Final Match and a Spirited Victory

Despite the back-to-back losses, the Watford U16 girls refused to let their spirits drop. They entered their final pool match against Basildon with determination and energy, giving another impressive performance. In a closely contested match, they narrowly lost once again, but their effort and attitude remained positive.

To conclude the day, the girls played a friendly match against Finchley. Determined to finish on a high note, the Watford team stepped up once more and delivered a commanding performance. They dominated the match, winning comfortably against a spirited Finchley side, showcasing their skills and teamwork.

Looking Forward

Though the day brought its challenges, the Watford U16 girls demonstrated remarkable resilience, teamwork, and sportsmanship. Their ability to bounce back after tough losses and finish the day with a strong win is a testament to their character as a team. The experience at RAF Halton will undoubtedly strengthen their bond and prepare them for future challenges on the rugby field.

We are incredibly proud of their efforts and look forward to seeing what they achieve in the upcoming season.
